Amazon Prime

So I just signed up with Amazon Prime. Now I get free 2 day shipping on all orders and $4 per item for overnight orders.

For $79, this may sound like no big deal, but it works out to be really cool. I just bought 3 books and told amazon to ship each one as fast as possible. That yielded 3 seperate shipments and would of cost $38 in shipping for 2 day. Normally you would chose to lump them into as few shipment as possible, which would further delay your shipment.

And I know you can get free shipping already, but that takes between 5 and 9 days, which is too long for me to wait for something. If I order an item, it is because I need it immediately.

Not even knowing it, this was the biggest problem preventing me from using amazon.com to this point. Yes they were a little cheaper than the B&N across the street, but wait time and potential shipping costs just weren’t worth it.

And if all that wasn’t cool enough, I can also share it with up to four family members in the same household. And since I ship everything to the parents anyway, that will allow several other people to benefit.

All in all, I can’t see how amazon will make money off of me for this. But they certainly will take my business away from the local Best Buy, Electronics Boutique and B&N.
